Wow, I have not posted in a long time. I have to not had the blog posting bug of late. I spent a little while updating the wordpress installation to 2.3 which adds some performance enhancements and tagging which are both nice features.
A couple of a days ago, I started to get an influx of spam that was coming from the contact form from here. Thanks to Douglas Karr who modified the original version of the wordpress plugin. He added a challenge question which should cut down on the blog spam.
Thanks to Mark Jaquith for providing the changed files for the wordpress upgrade. It was some feature enhancements and security patches. If you any of my readers are running an earlier version make sure to upgrade. Mark’s files make it very easy. It is very easy if you doing to from the command line. wget the file and then unzip it to the where your blog installed.
I got tired of the 3 column design I used from glish.com when I originally did my main site. It was my first experience with tableless layouts. The 3 column design looked very compelling. After a while I decided that it 3 column layout was a lot busier visually than it needed to be. Take a look at my new design. Please let me give me your feedback. This new layout is probably an interim layout. I have been reading The Zen CSS Design. I want to merge the looks of my blog theme and my main site together, but this might be awhile. I also fixed the invalid html on the subscription sign up in the blog sidebar. I should have checked it last night. I also added a link back to the main page on the sidebar of the blog. Enjoy the new look of my main site!
When I switched themes a while back, I forgot to put the code in for email subscription into the new theme’s sidebar. It is now back so please feel free to subscribe to my blog. The benefits of subscribing is that you get notified imediately when the there is a new posting to my blog.
I enjoy wordpress, the blogging application that I use for my site. It is definitely activally developed. They just released another release a few days ago. I got it installed and running this evening. It is a lot easier to use wget on my hosting server and extract it from there than trying to upload all of the files through cpanel.
Thanks for Mark Jaquith again for his changed files for the wordpress releases. The upgrade went very quick and smoothly. It is nice to be able to run the update in just a few minutes. Wordpress fixed some more security holes in this release. They were releasing every few days a few months ago. It is nice that the frequency has slowed down some.
You may have noticed that my blog looks a different. I updated to the current wordpress version which caused my theme to stop working. I found this one which had a nice clean look to it. Most of the plug-ins are working which was nice. I am not sure if I am going to keep it since it does not match the rest of my site. I would like to redesign my site at some point. It is much too busy layout than what I need. Enjoy the new look!
The developers at wordpress have been going crazy lately with releases. They have released version 2.1. You can read about all the new features and bug fixes here. I am planning to upgrade to it, but it will probably be this weekend before I get a chance. This release is a pretty big change. It is a full install instead of just replacing the changed files. I need to ensure that my theme will work. Do my readers like the theme I am using?
I discovered that the upgrade patch was released so I installed it tonight. It is so much easier just applying the changed files versus all of them. Thanks to Mark Jaquith for supplying the upgrade patch. The wordpress version is now 2.0.7.
