Longhorns Win The Alamo Bowl!

The University of Texas finished up its season following its national championship with a victory in The Alamo Bowl.  It had been a slightly disappointing season finishing 10-3.  The horns currently have the longest 10 wins in a season in the country.  Redshirt freshman Colt McCoy tied the NCAA touchdown record in the Alamo Bowl today.

2006 Year-End Financial Update

It has been a while since I have posted a financial update. I am happy with the financial progress I have made in 2006. My assets increased by $52,157.93 while my liabilities decreased by $9,776.00 which increased my net work by $61,933.93. I hope to maintain this trend year over year, but it will be hard the first quarter of 2007. The reason for this difficulty will be hard was I was working contract for the first four months of last year. (more…)

First Round Of Resume Updates

I finished the first round of updates on my resume.  I redid some the xhtml to make the page look better.  I need to add more detail on what I have done at FedExKinkos.  I will also have to add another company to it after the New Year since ecommerce will be part of FedEx Services on January 1, 2007.  I also fixed a validation problem on the one of meta tags that google needs for verification.  I am also going to switch the doctype from xhtml 1.0 transitional to xhtml 1.0 strict in the near future too.

Resume Being Updated

A recruiter called the house today after seeing my resume in google.  I figured I should update it since the last company on the one posted on the web was Countrywide which I left over a year ago now.  It is interesting seeing the ways recruiters go to find people.  I wonder how many pages of google searches she went through before she found my resume.  I also had another recruiter send me a message through myspace.  You have to give them credit for utilizing technology and the information that is out there.

This brings up another thing.  Always keep in mind what you post on the web whether it be a social networking site like myspace or your blog.  It is out there for the world to see including future or current employers.  Web 2.0 can be major privacy killer if you let it.

New York Trip

Alicia and I made it back from NYC. It was a fun trip. Alicia had never been to the Big Apple before so it was exciting to see her experience it. We left Friday before Christmas and returned Christmas Day. The city was a lot less crowded than I expected. A lot of the New Yorkers must leave town for the holidays. We stayed at the W on 39th and Lexington which is near Grand Central Station, Chrysler Building, and The UN. There are quite a few embassies around the hotel. The Rwandan embassy was next door.

Book Updates

I have been reading two very good books.  They are both along similar topics.  I have been reading Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML and The Zen of CSS Design: Visual Enlightenment for the Web.  I am enjoying both of them quite a bit.  The Head First is a series from O’Reily that uses an interesting writing style.  The writing style utilizes narratives, illustrations, and lots of exercises to present the topics.   I really enjoy this approach.  I am going to read the Head First Patterns next.  The Zen of CSS is a companion book to the great CSS Zen Garden site.  It takes several different example sites and breaks their elements of style.  I highly recommend both of these books.

NYC Bound

I have not posting much lately.  Alicia and I are going to NYC Friday morning.  I am looking forward to going.  Alicia has never been.  I hope she enjoys the city as much as I do.  We have tickets to see Sam Mendes’ new play The Vertical Hour.  It stars Julianne Moore and Bill Nighy.  I am looking forward to seeing it.  We are also going are to try our luck for tickets on TKTS on Friday.  I would also like to see Spam Alot, but the original cast has moved on.

I got my ipod on Monday.  It is my first ipod.  I have had two Creative mp3 players before.  I have had only had a little while to try it out.  I have enjoyed it so far.  I was listening to Midlake’s, a Dallas area band, new album, The Trials of Van Occupanther.  It is very good, but quite a change from their first album, Bamnan and Slivercork.  I would like to see them live; of course, Murphy’s Law usually hits me.  They are playing in Dallas on February 24 which is the same night as our Cirque du Soleil.  That is the only event we have in February and of course it overlaps.

Exciting Mention Of My Application

FedEx (company I work for) announced their earnings today which were up 9%.  They did warn for the 3Q.  The stock dropped 2%.  This was not good, but Fred Smith (CEO) mentioned Print Online during the analyst call.  He called it the slickest thing out there.  I thought was way cool.  Check it out here.  I hope you enjoy it.

Apple Fever?

I think I may have contracted Apple fever.  I ordered an ipod today.  I got the white 80 GB version.  It was a big dilemma between the white and black versions.  I currently have a Creative Nomad Zen Xtra which I have had for almost three years.  It is 40 GB which is getting very full so the ipod will give me a lot more space.  I like the color screen on the ipod very much.  You can in theory watch movies, but the screen size remains a big what if.  I also did some research on the MacBook Pros today.  I am not sure if I want to spring for the macbook.  I will report back when I get my ipod.

Thinking About Getting A Mac

I have heard a lot of good things about macs.  I was thinking about making the switch.  My current laptop is a year-old IBM T43.  I really like it, but I am not happy with the screen resolution.  I was thinking about getting one off and on for the past few years.

I have some questions for my readers.  I was thinking about getting an Apple Mac Book Pro.  Has anyone made the switch from windows to mac?  How did you like the switch?  Would you do it again?  Was it worth the money?  Please use the comments or contact me page.
