Short Review of Cowboy Mouth October 22
I should prefix this review with some qualifications. I love Cowboy Mouth’s live shows. Their albums unfortunately do not capture the energy of their live shows. The energy level is simply amazing. I read somewhere that on a bad night Cowboy Mouth will blow the roof off and on a good night they will save your soul. You can always count on feeling a lot better after the show when you got there.
The show was Granada Theater on Greenville. This is my second show there. I saw Suzanne Vega there about a year and a half ago. The Effects, who are of Tulsa opened for Cowboy Mouth. They put on an okay show. They are very young and very poppy sounding. Their sound reminded me a little bit of The Patridge Family. The guitarist was doing his best to look like Napoleon Dynamite. They did interact with the crowd. It is hard to be an unknown opening band, but they performed admirably.
Next up was the headliners, Cowboy Mouth. The lead singer who is also the drummer demands audience excitement. This is a key to their success. They played some new songs off of their new album Voodoo Shop. They closed with their one radio hit, Jenny Says. They played a lot of new songs which is good, but they did not play songs like Disconnected. I highly recommend you go see Cowboy Mouth if they are playing near you.
