Short Review on Muse September 20
Alicia and I went to see Muse last night. It was the second show in three days at Nextstage for us. We went to see Massive Attack on Sunday night. Here’s my review on that show. As I have said before I like the venue, but hate the parking fees (12 bucks) and very high drink prices. Anyway back to the subject at the hand. The Muse crowd was younger than I thought it was going to be. There were a lot of older high schoolers and college-age kids. I have one of their albums, Absolution. Muse has a total of five albums. Absolution was released in 2003. Absolution and the stuff I have heard on the radio were mellower than the show. Once Muse went on, they were there to rock. The tempo and volume were kicked way up which pleasantly surprised me. Here’s the setlist:
* Take a Bow
* Hysteria
* Assassin
* New Born
* Forced In
* Bliss
* Map of the Problematique
* Starlight
* Plug in Baby
* Time is Running Out
* Supermassive Black Hole
* Stockholm Syndrome
(Encore)
* Apocalypse Please
* Soldier’s Poem
* Knights of Cydonia
They are definitely influenced by or trying to emulate Queen. They do put a very good show. The sound was very good. The crowd was very into the show. The encore cracked me up. I am not sure if it was a function of the band, the crowd, or a combination of both. The time gap between the end of the regular show and the encore was maybe two minutes. Does Muse play to mainly ADD kids? Is the band themselves ADD, or is it something else?
