Gingerman Musings August 29
Work was pretty good today. I got everything I needed to get done for the code freeze deadline today which is good even a last minute issue that was assigned to me around 4:30 this afternoon. The craziness does not stop. We are pushing a build to QA tomorrow at 3:00pm and then releasing the build to production at 5:00pm. It is getting crazy. The application is looking good, but we are introducing a lot of change into a very short testing cycle. I wish the QA department the best of luck.
After I left work, I went to the Gingerman which is where I am composing this post.
They are having a DeKoninck Beer brewery night tonight. That means you get to keep the glass. I am loving that since Belgium beer glasses tend to be pretty expensive. I hope they have a Maredsous brewery night some time, but we will have to see. I would love to have some of their glasses. Unfortunately The Gingerman is not offering DeKoninck Excelsior which was my favorite on the Belgium tasting a few months ago. The regular DeKoninck is quite good, but I loved the Excelsior.
I spent some time setting up adsense for my website today. It is more of experiment than a money maker. I doubt I will make much unless my blog becomes very popular. Somehow I doubt that, but you never know. I also got google analytics configured too both on the main site and from the wordpress blog. It will be interesting to see what kind of statistics that I get. I always wonder who my readers are. I know a few of them are, but there are a lot of lurkers out there. Feel free to leave comments to say who you are. I am curious who reads my blog. Also feel free to leave comments about my writing. Is my writing good or bad, interesting or boring? I want to know.
I also order a book by the css zen garden guys. The reviews said it taught a bunch of website design which I really need a lot of help on. I got inspired to do some good design both from the UI (website) and java sides. It’s funny, most java developers hate UI work. I enjoy html and css work. I also enjoy the infamous middle tier and back-end work. I would probably write better code if I specialized, but I think it is good to have a good working knowledge and aptitude with all of them. Hopefully the book will give me an inspiration to redesign my site. What would my readers like to see?
